Nest and the City
This loft renovation leverages custom cabinetry design to create storage and display opportunities for just about any indoor hobby. Our cabinetry team crafted walnut casework that wraps around the perimeter of the loft, elegantly accommodating the avid reader, puzzle solver, or game player throughout the living area. The warm materiality of the cabinetry imbues the space with the feeling of domesticity.
A Sound Design Choice
Music, whether live or recorded, can play a transformative role in how we experience our homes. At Las Palmas Retreat in Palm Springs, California, an open great room responds to the desert environment by wrapping around a courtyard and pool – an admired approach among some of the area’s mid-century modern homes. This particular great room dedicates an area to music, with a piano positioned to set the mood both inside the home and outside on the patio.
For those who may not tickle the ivories themselves but love to collect vinyl, this casework moment is an example of how our designers can make the most of every square foot of a home. This custom walnut bench doubles as a hidden LP player.
Design for All Ages
This considered use of space—abetted by clever custom cabinetry—isn’t just for adults, either. In the example above, a bedroom for children doubles as a playroom when the bunk beds are folded into cabinets. A desk clicks into place, creating a surface for drawing and crafts.
