Thunder Road Reaches
Jackson Hole, WY
Envisioned as a year-round gathering place for a growing and multigenerational family, Thunder Road Reaches is a reinterpretation of the storied family farm compounds of the owners’ native Texas. Nestled along the banks of a meandering tributary of the Snake River, it lies within earshot of the legendary fly-fishing, scenic hiking paths, and world-class skiing and mountain biking offered by Jackson Hole.
The compound is conceived as a group of related structures including a main house, guesthouse, and gear barn that facilitate easy gatherings of friends and family and are sited to optimize privacy and views.
In keeping with the family it hosts, the compound is generous and maintains a warm and receptive domesticity. It offers bunk rooms for grandchildren, a series of private ensuite rooms for a second generation, and a primary suite that, as the sole occupant of the upper floor, maximizes its own privacy and features a separate den and sheltered roof terrace. These various quarters extend from central gathering spaces: a large central kitchen and oversized table, a great room and fireplace, and a central bar and game room that serve as the après-ski hub of the home.
Set at the south end of an open meadow, the home’s roofs angle gently upward to reveal extraordinary views toward Rendezvous Peak and Grand Teton itself, while the porosity of the home is established by multiple large, screened walls that encourage a free flow of springtime air and the murmur of the nearby river.
