We pride ourselves on our ability to design for any location, and one of the prime factors we consider is the way that sunlight falls on a site. We study the position of the sun from morning to night, at all seasons of the year. Then, we design the home to take advantage of the sun’s position to maximize natural heating and cooling.

Cette approche est connue sous le nom de Conception solaire passive, and we’ve used it to design energy-efficient homes for a range of climates, from the California desert to the coastal Northeast and Canada.

La conception solaire passive utilise les principes suivants pour chauffer et refroidir naturellement un bâtiment :

• Orientation solaire
  During the design process, we map the direction and strength of the sun on the building throughout the year. Here’s an example: a house in noon sunlight at four points in the year. You can see how, in the summer months when the sun is high in the sky, the overhangs shade the house from the sun and cool it; yet in the winter, when the sun is low in the sky, sunlight comes in under the overhangs to warm the house.

À Maison du Désert à Palm Springs, Passive Solar nous a aidés à atteindre notre objectif d'une maison à consommation énergétique nette zéro. Non seulement les surplombs du toit ont été soigneusement conçus pour empêcher la lumière directe du soleil de frapper les fenêtres pendant la période de surchauffe, mais le réseau photovoltaïque à 36 panneaux (monté légèrement au-dessus du toit) agit comme un système de refroidissement naturel en ombrageant le toit en dessous. Et même lorsqu'ils ne sont pas ombragés, les toits sont recouverts d'une membrane blanche qui réfléchit la chaleur loin de la maison en dessous.

• Enceinte hermétique 
  Turkel Design delivers a prefabricated package for every home that’s designed using a 3D digital model, then built with precision on a factory floor. We use materials like cross-laminated timber—factory-milled to precise dimensions—that help eliminate gaps in the structure. By the time the prefab package is delivered to your building site, you can be sure that all the components will fit together as intended.    
• Ventilation équilibrée  
  Les plans d'étage ouverts et la conception aérée de nos maisons favorisent la ventilation croisée, en utilisant des brises naturelles pour réguler la température. Lorsqu'elles sont soigneusement prises en compte, la largeur et la hauteur du bâtiment peuvent exploiter ces modèles de flux d'air pour réduire considérablement les coûts énergétiques. 

La conception solaire passive n'est qu'un exemple de la façon dont un investissement initial dans une maison personnalisée bien conçue peut créer des avantages durables sur la route, à la fois pour l'environnement et pour le coût du chauffage et de la climatisation de votre maison.
